Columbia Records Canada called me many Novembers ago 2 create a New Year's promotional give-away 4 their national reps.

As I drove 2 the meeting, I thought: "I am not going 2 mock-up a sketch of Mozart outta musical notes! Too boring!"

So, as I walked into their boardroom, I suddenly said: "I want 2 create The Classicalendar! I'd like 2 promo your most notable classical music performers in portraits 4 each month.... & fill in days of the months with Classical data! I figure that if I want to know more of that musical genre, perchance others do to!"

After I presented my proposal, they said: "We luv it! Do it!" I asked 4 a batch of photos of their top artists (US, Canada & Beyond), I just needed 2 see their features as I can't copy a photographer's vision. I also needed recordings of their music so as 2 feel their passion & personality.

I left with a carton of material. On the way back 2 my creation station, I stopped off at the library (no Google then) & picked up stacks of classical music history books so as 2 research back 2 the 1500's. I wanted 2 fill as many dates as possible, & cross reference 4 accuracy.

It became a project of passion & gave me a deeper luv 4 classical music & the performers.

I met the timeline with 12 water colour portraits, all data researched & entered on layout in my handscript cam-ready... that was 1976 BC (Before Computers).

Columbia was thrilled with the result. Since they only needed my project 4 a one-time use, I maintained copyright. I plan 2 offer my "Classicalender" with newer portraits as a fundraiser 4 various international symphonies 4 2005.

Here is a sampling, hope you enjoy.
