Being a passionate woman, I naturally adored Harry Belafonte's music & humanitarian spirit. When I had my studio in Toronto, O'Keefe Centre often commissioned me to paint portraits of famous performers so they could present them at the close of their concert run.

One day a major WOW happened when they asked me to paint a portrait of Harry Belafonte & wanted me to present it to him on stage after his last show. That was a Triple-Wow Assignment!!!

I was veeery jazzed as I brought my finished & framed portrait to the theatre that special night. As I stood in the wings in a long white satin toga gown with my portrait, I thought: "I shall never ever forget this moment in time!"

While I watched the brilliant & bodacious Belafonte blow his musical whistle & sing "Matilda", he looked toward me standing in the semi-shadows & winked as he danced nearby.

I tried not to melt as I thought: "OK, I can die right now. My spirit is complete. Or ... maybe I better not die right now as I've got to present this portrait to Mr. Belafonte".

After he finished his fantabulous concert with many great encores, I was brought on-stage to present him with his portrait present. When it was unvieled, he smiled broadly & & said he luved it! There was lots of applause & flashing cameras. His generous reaction seemed very genuine.

After the show, we chatted for a while at the wrap party. I was already impressed with his iconic & charismatic talent, but I became even more impressed with what a fine gentleman he was. A definite Earthian treasure.
